Not Yeti, written by Kelly Dipucchio and illustrated by Claire Keane. Viking, Penguin Random House. 2021. $23.99 ages 4 and up

"Most monsters are only interested
in being right.
And loud.
And rude.
But not Yeti.
He crochets sweaters
for penguins.
He compliments the weeds
as he passes them by
on his morning walks.
"

Yeti has not always been the kind and helpful friend he is now. He was, at a time in the past, just the kind of monster people thought him to be. He went the way of the other monsters he knew. He really wasn't happy with the way he was acting.

"... he liked making things ...

more than he liked
breaking things.

For Yeti, everything changed. Of course, it was impossible to make everyone he knew happy. He liked doing what he liked to do. It made him and others in the community happy. He built libraries, and helped bees, trees, and tiny turtles. Other monsters, like Lloyd, were not impressed with his comforting ways. When invitations were sent to the Monster Ball & Barbecue, Yeti was not on the list.

Though disappointed at being left out, Yeti found his own way to celebrate. The loud and awful sounds coming from the other party could not ruin Yeti's enjoyment of his own, or that of his friends. In fact Betty made quite the entrance.

Watch for Betty in the riotous illustrations. She is there watching Yeti and admiring his ways. The shifting perspectives and expressive faces are sure to entertain and keep young readers engaged in the goings-on. They will be happy to meet the sweet and unassuming Yeti who proves that being yourself in most important.
