"Scaredy Squirrel wants to eat a nut.
But to get a nut, he must set foot on
dangerous ground.
A few possible run-ins that make this
a risky move:
rocks
cacti
puddles
burrows and ... "
This is a perfect book for Scaredy Squirrel fans ... and for those who have not yet been introduced to this quirky little guy! Since I first met him, Scaredy has been as his name describes. He is anxious about many things. He is also quite humorous in the way he deals with those things that truly do scare him. Mostly, his fears are unfounded - that doesn't stop him from coming up with ways to deal with them.
Scaredy loves his nut tree. He cannot imagine a better place to live. He would be better served were he to spend every day and night living in the quiet peace and comfort of its branches. He doesn't like to set foot on the ground because he is convinced that anywhere beyond his home is fraught with danger. That is a grand incentive to stay put.
The requirements for reading the book are made clear - it must not be read in bathrooms. Upon agreement, the reader moves forward to take a security quiz filled with ridiculous questions, and gathering points for providing the desired answer. By amassing the required number of points, the reader is permitted to move on.
The book begins with a table of contents: Safe and Sound, Out and About, and Stranger Danger. The first chapter deals with Scaredy assuring safety and protection. He is well practiced at such maneuvers. Concerned with dust bunnies, he concocts an elaborate plan to rid his nut tree of them. The results of that complicated plan lead to ever more involved ways to stay safe. The two chapters that follow deal with how he will do what it needed to be done. In the end, he discovers that he was perhaps hasty in his evaluation of the fluffy bunny who only wants to be a friend. Will Scaredy Squirrel abandon his many eccentricities and open his heart to a new friend?
