Binky:License To Scratch, written and illustrated by Ashley Spires. Kids Can Press, 2013. $16.95 ages 6 and up

"This might be his only chance.
If he could just get away...
HEY!
Then he could...
make a break for it!

WUMP!
CRASH!"

Poor Binky...his day begins, fraught with apprehension and fear:

"This is a disaster.
They never saw it coming.
It's the one crisis that even this team of space pets
can't overcome.
Suitcases!
Their humans are going away!
Without them!"

Binky and Gordie are not the only ones. Gracie is in the same boat. Many pets have been there. My granddogs, Percy and Eddie, get very concerned whenever a suitcase makes an appearance. They KNOW they are in for a change...and they don't like it one bit.

So, it is no surprise that Binky and his friends try stopping them. Nothing works. Just when they think they are going to be left alone to man the space station and keep the aliens at bay, another injustice is done! They are transported to a 'pet hotel'. It's the vet clinic! Oh my word, they've been there and they know what's up:

"Don' worry, guys.
I know it's the vet, but no
needles. I promise.

BINKY WANTS TO TRUST HIS HUMANS.
BUT NOTHING ABOUT THIS SMELLS RIGHT.
WHY DO THEY HAVE TO STAY HERE?"

They were right to think it. Life away from their humans is awful, and they eventually, and with help, fashion a 'prison break! It turns out that what is on the outside might be a tad worse than the many boring moments in time spent in a cage. They were not expecting Professor Tuffy, and her aliens.

Will their humans ever come back for them? Will they get there on time? What do you think?

This is Binky's last adventure. What? Along with so many other fans, I will miss him greatly and will have to return to the five wonderfully cheeky and oh, so entertaining books we do have to remind myself about his escapades. Keep each one of them on your library shelves so that you can do the same thing!
