There Are Cats in This Book, written and illustrated by Viviane Schwarz. Candlewick, Random House, 2008. $18.50 ages 3 and up

"The cats aren't on this page, either. They're on the next page. They'd love to play with you. They're very friendly."

Can you resist the invitation? If you are a cat person, you cannot. The three cats who 'people' this book can be seen hiding on the front cover and you know you are in for a treat. Their names are Moonpie, Tiny and Andre, as is evidenced by their food bowls on the first page. The purring is soft and cordial. As the quilt is flipped open, it appears that we have disturbed their slumber. Each has a hello and then a request for help in turning the following page. Once you are on the ride, you can't keep from taking the next spin. As the flaps are lifted and the pages turned, the cats have something to say and they also provide much encouragement for moving forward. They take great pride in allowing us access to the things they love.

As we turn the final page on the no longer frisky felines, they are polite about the assistance given and beg the reader to come back very SOON. You can bet we will.

What a wonderful book this is for our youngest readers; but it entertains everyone who shares it, too. You will barely get the book closed when you will hear the cry that authors, children and readers love....'please, read it again!' What could be more fun than finding a book that begs to be shared again and again?
