“The snow hadn’t stopped at lunchtime, or later, when I had my snack. Mommy couldn’t go to the grocery store. We played cards instead, just the two of us. Daddy’s flight got canceled, and he couldn’t get home. All of us waited for the snow to stop.”
Well it looks like I got out of Dodge (well, Brandon) just in time! I left home at the very moment that the clouds decided to dump the snow they had been gathering over the past six weeks and now I am enjoying all the sunshine of the west coast. But my aversion to snow (at my advancing age) doesn't, in any way, make me forget the absolute delight we felt when we had a snow day and could stay home from school (and I loved school!). In this soft and gentle snowy book, we meet little bunny and his Mommy as they spend the day together, not able to do anything much but celebrate the quiet that is now theirs.
Even if you don't live where snow is the norm, you will come to realize the beauty of it all as you wander through the pages of this book which uses soft pastel illstrations to show its quiet stillness. Using a grey and white palette on a black background the artist creates a world where there is little sound. It is a perfect setting for this special story to be shared with little ones. At the end of the day, when they are assured that Daddy's plane will return home tomorrow, bedtime becomes its own oasis. Ah,lovely!!!
