“My tail would be as curly as a lemon twist. My tail would be as fluffy as cotton candy.”
Me and You is a perfect book about true friends and their great love for each other. They want to be exactly alike. Rabbit wants to be the same color as Pig is and have all the same features. Rabbit wants to brave and noisy. Likewise, Pig wants to be pale white, have long ears, and a fluffed-up tail. Oh, to be so delicate! They make their best efforts to change but only end up looking ridiculous because it is not who they are! They see a resemblance, but seem more suited to be themselves. They love each for who they are, not what they look like. It is an important discovery to make. The story is so simply told, but with rhyme and rhythm that will appeal to its intended audience. It is wonderful to read aloud and again provides a forum for discussion with the youngest listeners. If it is true that the greatest compliment is to want to be just like your friend, these two are truly lucky. The watercolor artwork is a perfect complement to the text, showing two artists with their respective friends ( a blue butterfly and a green frog who are privy to the goings-on) as they struggle to find common ground in their quest to be like one another. Come for the story and stay for the stunning art...or the other way around. Either way you are in for a treat!
