"But the wind continued to blow, and the branches still danced. The leaves shivered and shook themselves and began to wiggle free. They tossed and turned and twitched and twirled and tumbled to the ground. They brushed Fletcher's ears and nose and filled his dreams with a whispering sound."
While I am basking in sunshine in Victoria and watching city workers pick up huge piles of fallen leaves, I am thinking about those buried under snow and shivering in below zero temperatures...but not every minute of the day, I have to admit! Fletcher the Fox is distruaght when he sees his tree is sick. In fact, the tree's illness is causing it to lose its leaves. His mother tries to reassure him that it is autumn and a natural phenomenon. Fletcher is not convinced; but, no matter how hard he tries, he cannot get the leaves to stay put. The winds pick up and more leaves fall. As they do, his forest friends are delighted for they use those leaves to line nests, keep themselves warm, and any manner of thing. Admitting defeat Fletcher heads for home, and his mother. When he awakens he makes an early morning visit to his tree, once more wanting to reassure himself. Imagine his surprise when he sees what weather can do to make his tree an amazing spectacle, even in the winter.
